DIY - Easy Candle-making

Here is a basic step-by-step tutorial on how to make your own candles. I find that they are suitable for many purposes from personal ornamental use to unique gifts for a birthday or wedding present.

To start, you will need:
- Wax/ Candle
- A jar
- Ribbon (or other decorative items)
- Dish or bowl (suitable for heating)
- Saucepan
- Knife
- Jug
- Cocktail stick
- Hair clip
- 2x butter knife/ chop sticks
- Paper towels

Once you have prepared all of your items you may begin, it really is as simple as melting chocolate..

1 - To begin you must chop the wax into small pieces with a knife and add to dish.

2 - Fill saucepan with water, half way, and boil on low to medium heat. Place dish on top and mix the wax around allowing it to melt evenly.
3 - Whilst waiting for wax to completely melt, place the jar into a jug and pour on boiling water to heat it, ready for the wax.

4 - Once the wax has completely melted, turn off heat and pour away boiling water from jug and dry the jar thoroughly with paper towel.
5 - Place paper towels underneath and around the jar to protect surfaces from wax spills.

6 - Take wick from the candle and wrap it round a cocktail stick, clipping the top end with a hair clip and putting it into the middle of the jar, balancing up with knives or chopsticks.

7 - To speed up the drying process you can fill a bowl with cold water and pop the jar inside, this will help to set the wick in place. Then leave in a cool place to dry, preferably over night.
8 - Once candle has set, attach ribbon around the jar and tie into a bow.
9 - Light your candle and enjoy!

Jars, candles and ribbon are all from my local Wilkinsons store, for around £7.00 altogether. Only half of both candles were used between two jars, the pink is red berry scented and the gold is sandalwood. You can use any scent you like or even leave unscented, whatever suits your fancy as it is your own specifically homemade candle. However you decide to use your candles I hope that you enjoy them and have found this helpful. Feel free to leave any other DIY suggestions in the comments and goodbye til next time,

18 - 21.07.13

This weekend I took a short break to Wales with my grandparents. With the sun shining bright and the rising temperature, it would've felt wrong not to take the opportunity!
From long walks on the beach to experiencing the night life entertainment, there is never a dull moment! These days give me a chance to forget about the usual routine and scenery, helping to rid of any negative thoughts. Arriving home feeling positive is a success every time I take the journey, the peace does wonders!
No matter where you journey to, I believe a few days in change of lifestyle is always healthy, giving success in relaxation to head home with nothing but positivity! Showing to be proved due to the fact that now I'm back home, the sun has disappeared yet I'm still feeling positive! (Although I can enjoy the cooler weather as it allows me to cosy up indoors with a cup of tea and a film or book, which has been the case today).
I had the chance to take a few photos whilst I was away, so I'll insert them below. I shall be posting again whenever I have the chance to experience something worth writing about but until then, goodbye!

Above is a photo I captured on the beach, I thought the chairs added the perfect pop of colour to the view!

Above is another photo captured on the beach, I thought this shell looked beautiful. Not only the pattern of colours but also how it resembles a butterfly.

This last photo I captured is of my grandparents dog Lila. I enjoyed her presence as she added entertainment to the weekend due to her mischievous ways!
